Burlap Bubble Wreath...Inspired by Pinterest

I apologize to all of my followers for my short hiatus this week...I have valid excuses...one being my main computer that I utilize for my blog (that also contains most of my downloaded pictures) stopped working and I had to contact technical support.  I hope we have the "bugs" worked out :)...Second, I had to make a visit to the ER the other day...so, that put me out of commission as well...HOWEVER, I have been working on some crafts to bring to you, and hopefully can get a few posts up in the next few days/weeks...hope you enjoy!!!

One of the projects that I want to highlight is my burlap bubble wreath...which was inspired by Pinterest.  First, I will show you my finished project, then, we'll get into the "details":

I was "inspired" to create this burlap bubble wreath via my favorite inspiration site...you guessed it...Pinterest!! Below is the pin that I referred to for my instructions to create my burlap bubble wreath...Janet @ todaysfabulousfinds.blogspot.com developed a great tutorial on how to create the bubble burlap effect...I LOVED her AFTER!!!  I fell in love...and I knew I MUST MAKE one of my own...I followed her steps almost exclusively...however, I did do a few things differently...here is my pin to her website...feel free to check her out....

Instead of a foam wreath, I purchased a large straw wreath at the local Goodwill...it had some ugly fake flowers on it that I removed.  My wreath ended up being quite a bit larger than my "pinspiration" wreath...so I had to cut more squares than she suggested...no problem!!!

Onto the first step...I cut lots of 4" x 4" square burlap squares...she called for about 90...I say I had to cut about 120-130 to cover my wreath (I lost count...I kept cutting until I quit seeing wreath surface area).  Measure and cut the first square and use it as template so you don't have to keep measuring all of the squares (they don't have to be exact).

Once you have your squares cut, you will begin making your "bubbles".  This is done by placing the corners together as seen in the following pictures:

First Fold: Corner to Corner
Second Fold: Bring one of the bottom triangle corners up to the top  corner
Third Fold: Bring the other side up to the top corner (all of the corners will be meeting  up in the same area)
Turn the burlap over and place the pin with large head through  ALL of the corners (if you don't get all of the corners...it will come apart)...then place on the wreath.  Place under previous pieces that you have already placed on the wreath so you can hide the rough areas of burlap.  Continue this process OVER and OVER and OVER all around the wreath...UNTIL...
Once you complete the bubble burlap process many times over you will get something similar to this, a finished burlap bubble wreath:

I also decided to personalize my wreath...because I simply love personalization and monograms...my personal taste!!!  So I purchased an "L" at Hobby Lobby while they were on sale and spray painted it...then added it with some hot glue...the final results:

While fairly simple once the technique is mastered...I will admit it did take some time to complete...However, I'm SO HAPPY with how it turned out. The great thing is...it does not have to be uniform; each "bubble" can be unique...so, if one is a little bigger than its neighbor..THAT IS OKAY...it adds to its charm!!

I took pictures of it in its temporary location...it is going to be moved to a permanent location soon.  Currently, it is hanging on a hanger that I purchased at an estate sale last year that I love (you know I love those sales!!!)...but, I plan on a permanent hanger solution in its permanent placement.  You could also add ribbon to hang it...however, I plan to hang it with a hook...similar to how it is currently hanging...it will probably show up in another post down the road in a before and after post.

Hope you are inspired...let me know what you have been inspired by recently!!!  Much love and blessings,

Each week I may link up at the parties located at my tab located on my blog love tab here. Feel free to check these lovely sites out!

  20. Wow, burlap seems to be the go to material these days. Great that it's fairly inexpensive depending on where you buy it. That looks fairly simple to do so will have to make one. Been digging in my stash and was quite surprised to find a bit of burlap to try out some of wonderful projects I keep finding to use it. Like the personalization you put on it. I never seem to be able to leave something alone, have to add that one more little thing to snazz it up.
Hope your computer is behaving and you're doing better. You are to be commended for taking on that wreath while under the weather. Maybe it helped to take your mind off your problem? I subscribed to your blog and can hardly wait to see what you do next. Happy Day
