He Gives Me Strength

"What joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord, who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem."

A dear friend of mine recently sent me a card with this quote in it.  It hit me RIGHT SQUARE IN THE EYES...it was just the words I needed at JUST THE RIGHT TIME!  Ever had something happen like that?  I'm sure you have.

You see, she was wishing me a "happy birthday"...but, she did SO MUCH MORE!  As I've said in other posts, I suffer from a chronic illness...and this week has been quit trying physically.  After a while, this thorn can sometimes wear me out, and can begin to wear my weary soul...and, just when I needed it...I received just the jolt of encouragement I needed!  I believe God allows us to have experiences, friendships, struggles, etc. to develop and strengthen our faith.

"Storms make trees take deeper roots."  Dolly Parton

Ms. Dolly has some good "southern" knowledge to depart in that quote...I must agree!  I find comfort in the "strength" of trees.  That is why I utilize the symbol of a tree on my "blog button".  Even though they are tossed and turned through hail storms, tornadoes, thunderstorms and rain storms...the strong will "take deeper roots" and become "stronger".

In fact, NASA did an experiment in which they created a habitat and planted trees and flora in a bubble as an experiment to see if the plants would provide enough oxygen to sustain life on Mars.  Over time, the branches and leafs became brittle and began falling off of the tree.  The NASA scientists began wondering why this was happening, and soon realized that the wind and outside forces that a tree must endure in the environment are what makes it grow stronger, develop roots, become grounded, and outside forces are what gives it the "strength" to survive.  In the same vein...trials and tribulations in this life will make us "take deeper roots" and in turn cause us to become "stronger"!

How do we grow our roots?  The only way I know how is to look to my God above...PRAY and TALK TO HIM!  Let him talk to me through his word, and fellowship with other believers.

HE GIVES ME STRENGTH AND KNOWS JUST WHAT I NEED!!!

"He gives strength to those who are tired and more power to those who are weak.  The people who trust the Lord will become strong again.  They will rise up as an eagle in the sky; they will run and not need rest; they will walk and not become tired."  Isaiah 40: 29, 31

In addition, I believe God allows "just the right people" to enter into our life at "just the right time".  You know the friend that I mentioned above...well, she has become a friend that I've met via this blog of mine.  When I first started blogging, I at first didn't understand what some people were saying about their great friends they had met in blogging...and I was hoping I would be able to make such friends.  And, in a very short time...I feel I've made such "blogging friends" that I had read about.  It is amazing!!!

As for my special friend mentioned above...Anita @ Scattering the Stones, thank you for sending me just what I needed today...we all need friends that can sense just what we need!  And, for all of you who I have met since blogging and I consider my blogging friends...thank you for joining me on this journey...glad we have become friends and I look forward to continuing this journey together...may we all strengthen each other together!  I also thank those who have been there long before this blogging journey as well...

"Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest.  Accept my teachings and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit, and you will find rest for your lives.  The teaching that I ask you to accept is easy; the load I give you to carry is light."  Matthew 11: 28-30

I pray that you have such friends.  Are you hurting?  Or, are you in need of someone to pray for you or just a pick me up?  I am here...Let me know if you have ANYTHING that you want me to pray with or for you about...I am here...

Blessings,

  6. Oh I loved your quote. I may not be thankful for storms (I, too, suffer from chronic pain) but I'm thankful for the deep roots they produce. I'll pray your week will be as pain free as possible.

    1. Sometimes it is hard to be thankful for the storms, isn't it? So sorry you suffer from chronic pain...not something I wish to share "commonalities" with...but, I do understand :). I do think it helps us to develop our deep roots though :) Thanks for the prayers! Hope you were blessed, and feel free to visit again!

  8. I know exactly what you mean, Erin. So often lately, cherished friends -- at least one of whom I met via blogging -- have pulled me out of the trench and inspired me to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

  12. Hi Erin,
Glad to find you through Beholding Glory.

I LOVE this image of the trees growing deeper roots through the storms! Great post. Sorry about your illness. I just have pneumonia and am just beginning to have a small inkling what others like yourself go through. Thank you for your vulnerability and yet your ability to go to the right place with your pain. It is so very inspiring.

    1. Thank you for your sweet comment, Summer. I don't blog for sympathy as much as for understanding, inspiration and encouragment...however, thank you. So many of us suffer (in silence due to shame or embarassment) and that is not what God wants. I just want others to be encouraged. Thank you for taking the time to encourage me today with your comment ;)
